Cannabis Consulting opens a whole new world for nurses.
Hello, I'm Susan Marks, MSN, FNP-C, PHN and I specialize in cannabis medicine. I got into medical cannabis almost 8 years ago when I went searching for an alternative to Primidone (an anti-convulsant) which I was taking for a progressive neurological movement disorder called Essential Tremor. The effects of Primidone were intolerable, it was as if my brain was no longer my own. My tremors were getting so bad, I could barely drink out of a glass without spilling water everywhere, so I couldn't just stop the medication; I needed to find an alternative. During my months of medical research, cannabis kept coming up as a possible treatment for seizures, Parkinson's Disease (dyskinesia), and movement disorders associated with neurodegenerative diseases. As I weaned off of Primidone, I began adding my dose of cannabis which included CBD, THCA, and a small amount of THC at night (I do not like the feeling of being high). Not only was I able to discontinue the Primidone, but my tremors were significantly better. My improvement and stillness were noticed by friends and family, and they began asking me to help them use cannabis for their medical issues. That was the beginning of my cannabis consulting business which I call Nurse Susan. I still work with patients but now I am teaching other nurses how to be a cannabis consultant, as either a part-time income, or a full time business.
Nurses are leaving the profession in droves, especially after Covid 19. They are simply burned out. Whether it's unsafe working environment, being overworked, underpaid, or underappreciated, or dealing with wear and tear on their bodies, emotional stress, bullying, or all of the above, nurses are calling it quits.
Do you feel like you just can't give anymore?
Does it seem like our healthcare system is broken, where money is more important than patients, and you want to find a way out? (You can)
Are you frustrated that you work so hard but have little to no extra money?
And when it comes down to it, do you dread going to work?
Watch this video by Emma, a licensed physical therapist, who was getting lots of questions about CBD from her patients, and took my course so she had this tool to help her patients with pain, inflammation, sports injuries, etc.
I considered becoming a cannabis nurse consultant in 2018. I called Nurse Susan, who was incredibly supportive. When I was ready for a career change, I eagerly signed up for Nurse Susan's program. Nurse Susan's course material is straightforward. Her website is easy to navigate. The follow-up sessions helped me learn how to set up a practice while getting support from other students. Susan's real-world experience and support have made opening my business less scary. I highly recommend Nurse Susan!
Nurse Susan is a phenomenal educator. She is able to explain complex and difficult scientific research about the medicinal use of cannabis in a way that was simple and easy to understand. I also enjoyed the interactive and collaborative approach throughout the training because it wasn't just a long lecture that tends to be boring. The training sessions and coursework were high-energy and felt personal. I'm excited to say that I'm now at a point where I feel confident to take on clients and it has everything to do with Susan's unique teaching skills, encouragement, and the rapport and empathy she gives to her students.
I have had the pleasure to be interviewed on a number of different podcasts. I hope you enjoy and find value in listening to them.
